This website is often mistaken for the official website of the International Mounted Games Association IMGA, but that organisation has its own site. The Long Man of Wilmington, or Bending Pole Man, is a 226 foot high hill figure cut into the downland turf on the slope of Windover Hill in Sussex, England. The first recorded reference to the Man was in 1710, but the date of the original construction is unknown. The Man is one of the largest such representations of a human figure anywhere in the world. He stands holding what are clearly two bending poles and appears to be having some problems locating them exactly 15yds from the start line.If you drive along the A27 between Brighton and Eastbourne in the southern part of England you will clearly see this evidence that Mounted Games was a popular sport in England hundreds of years ago. The Mans arms are apparently not long enough for the difficult task of laying out an arena, showing that nothing has changed over the centuries.
